Full review of the Lexus IS 350 Front Brake Pads and Rotors:These Centric replacement OEM Brake Rotors for the Lexus IS350 / IS 250 and other Lexus / Toyota vehicles provides exceptional fix and extraordinary quality.Like most of you reading this review, I spent a lot of time researching brake pads and brake rotors for my 2007 Lexus IS350. I could NOT find a single definitive brake review that contained all of the information I needed even after spending a lot of time reading reviews at clublexus.com.To help everyone out, I am giving as much feedback as possible here on amazon. For me, these Centric High Carbon Brake Rotors are much better than the factory OEM brake rotors. Not only are they less expensive, they are higher quality, have a more aggressive vane / cooling fin system and they have a special E-coating on the non-friction surfaces which prohibit rust from forming against the wheel hub or your rims. The Centric High Carbon Brake Rotors exceed the factory Toyota OEM rotors (part # 43512-22260 ) in every way. This is my second DIY front brake pad replacement. The first time, I decided to use factory OEM Toyota pads. At 55,000 miles this is the vehicles 3rd set of front pads (1st = factory installed, 2nd = factory OEM replacement, 3rd = Centric stoptech pads)The Centric High Carbon Rotors are a perfect OEM fit. They also have a special e-finish / coating that should keep rust from binding the rotor to the front wheel hub. Quality / materials/ finish exceed the OEM Toyota part without question. It’s amazing these things are only $70 each. One problem with the OEM rotors is that the surface of the brake rotor that contacts the wheel hub assembly is raw metal / steel. This raw metal to metal creates rust. The brake rotor and wheel hub will rust together even here in Arizona where we get little rain and the vehicle is kept 100% garaged (home and work). Another issue with the factory OEM brake rotor is the way the OEM brake pads eat into the rotor requiring you to always replace your rotors with your brake pads (in the IS350 anyway). If I have enough room, I can put up complete installation instructions including photos. For easy removal of the brake rotor make sure you go to the store and get TWO 8 x 1 x 20mm bolts. You screw these into the rotor to break it free from the wheel hub. DO NOT WATCH YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF PEOPLE POUNDING AWAY ON THEIR ROTORS! The OEM brake rotors have two 8m threaded screw holes which will break your almost certainly rusted OEM rotor away from the OEM wheel hub. Search google images .Some items to note:The Centric / Stoptech High Carbon brake rotors are directional so you need to order the right and left side separately. The intake vanes faces forward. Centric 125.44137 is the Front right passenger side brake rotor. Centric 125.44138 is the Front left Brake Rotor driver side brake rotor.Installation Guide.Anyone with average mechanical skills can replace the front brake rotors and pads on a Lexus IS350. For starters, you should review the “front brake pad replacement” on clublexus.com. Google “DIY: IS350 front brakes (w/o removing caliper)”Once you are familiar with that process, here is the procedure I would recommend (along with photos).1. Jack up vehicle and remove the wheel + tire2. Place towels or cardboard under the brake rotor (you are going to get a lot of brake dust falling out of the rotor and brake pads3. Put on gloves and remove the brake pads as shown on clublexus4. After the pads are out, you need to ensure the caliper pistons are fully pushed back. I suggest using a stiff putty knife and paint stick as shown.5. Run your hand on the inside of the caliper. If you feel a lip on the caliper pistons, they still need to be depressed more. Not there are a total of 4 pistons inside each brake caliper. Make sure all 4 are fully depressed – this will save you time later6. Once the piston is fully depressed, you remove the 2 bolts that attach the brake caliper to the a-arm / control arm. Do not allow the caliper to hang. Instead find a box or small bucket to place the caliper on.7. Your OEM brake rotor is likely rusted to the wheel hub slightly and isn’t likely to just fall off. The rust is most likely at the 2 small screw holes in the rotor, at the lug nut holes in the rotor and around the center bearing hub of the wheel hub. You can spray WD40 in all these locations and let it sit for a minute.8. Since you will be throwing your old rotors away, I would then start a few love taps from the inside of the rotor out ONLY AT THE LOCATION WHERE THE BRAKE CALIPER WAS. Tap, Tap … rotate hub 1/5 turn … TAP, TAP … rotate hub 1/5 turn … repeat.9. If the love taps don’t work you’ll need to use the 8mm screws to break the rotors free from the wheel hub. Simply tighten both bolts to apply more and more pressure to break the rotor free from the wheel hub.FAQsHow Long did my Toyota OEM pads last?( Toyota part # 04465-30500 / 0446530500) ?I replaced the factory installed pads at 35k and they were fully used up. At 35,000, the rotors were also lipped and the dealer said they needed to be replaced but I decided the lip didn’t hurt much so I just replaced the pads only. The second set of OEM pads lasted about 20k miles. By this time (55k miles), the lip on the rotor had gotten so deep that the rotor lip was hitting the metal of the brake pad because the OEM pads don’t actually contact all the way to the lip (see photos). I suspect younger more aggressive drivers will go thru OEM front brake pads on the Lexus IS 350 every 15k-25k. That would seem to be the norm. The OEM pads really eat into the brake rotors. This is one of the main reasons that I switched to a Centric / Stoptech High Carbon with the Centric Posiquiet pads. Why didn’t you use slotted or drilled Centric Brake Rotors instead?Easy – I wanted maximum surface area. I wanted the maximum contact surface area between the brake pad and brake rotor plain and simple. The holes and slots may or may not reduce the rotor temperature. The only thing I know for sure is they result in less surface area for the pad to make contact with the friction / sacrificial surface of the rotor.Toyota OEM pads vs Posiquiet / Stoptech:The Centric / Stoptech / Posiquiet brake PADS come with all new mounting hardware and the back metal plate covers the entire back of the pad surface. The OEM pads require you to clean some of your old parts and put disc brake quiet in between 2 metal shims. If you find any of this information helpful, please mark it as being helpful so other people can find it.
