Doc Martin is a gem of a Britcom. I purchased the complete series. The show revolves around the romantic tension between Louisa Glasson - (Caroline Catz) a school teacher and Martin Ellingham - (Martin Clunes) a former vascular surgeon from London. I won't include any spoilers so you can safely read on. The fictional town of Portwenn at times seems populated by miscreants, hypochondriacs, and all sorts of con artists. Doc Martin, very straight laced, professional and without a sense of humor arrives and let the games begin. The show is balanced between comedy and drama and at times will have you laughing so hard it hurts or on the edge of your seat with medical emergencies. Among the players are many familiar faces. Aunt Joan (Stephanie Cole) , Doc's aunt played Diana in the Britcom "Waiting for God". Eleanor Glasson (Louise Jameson) plays Louisa Glasson's mother. Both Jameson and Clunes played in the SciFi series Dr. Who. There's even an appearance by Sigourney Weaver, who plays a tourist to scenic Portwenn. The series contains some of the driest, sarcastic and understated british humor you will encounter along with madcap comedy the likes of Monty Python. It's a keeper!
